Good website that addresses an array of issues with large section on support for care givers. This site leans heavily on topics of communication and working through the difficult issues surrounding end of life care. Discusses the grief process-how it feels, how long it may last…Information on planning ahead, end of life wishes, and explaining Advanced Directives.
AARP

“A Good Life; A Good Death” (approximately 10 minutes) This is a beautiful video on the AARP website. It highlights a man who is a husband, a father, a grandfather…he is dying of prostate cancer now. You can see how he lived his life with such dignity and he and his wife (and their large family) are also facing his death with the same grace and dignity. I recommend viewing it.
National Institute of Health
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/hospicecare.html#cat1
A very impressive, exhaustive website where you can find information on coping, nutrition, financial issues, clinical trials, statistics, journal articles, latest news and much more! One of the best sites we have found as far as the sheer amount of information available. Easy to navigate and find what you are looking for, as well.
The Hospice Foundation of America
www.hospicefoundation.org
Email: hfa@hospicefoundation.org
This website has 2 particular features that impressed us. One is called “Ask the Expert”. You can either search the questions that have already been asked (and answered), or, if your question is unique or more complex, you can email it and their expert will respond personally (within 24 hours if possible) Another excellent section was called “Listen To The Voices”- Click on a person’s image and listen to those who have experienced hospice, worked in hospice and other experts in grief and bereavement. Like us, you are sure to find yourself immersed in their stories…
Medicare Website
www.medicare.gov/
Good site to find specific info on Medicare and hospice. Good place to search if you have complaints or legal issues connected with hospice care. Click on Medicare site and type in “hospice” to search.
Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC)
Website: www.adec.org
A rather interesting organization and website we came across. ADEC is one of the oldest interdisciplinary organizations in the field of dying, death and bereavement. Its nearly 2000 members include a wide array of mental and medical health personnel, educators, clergy, funeral directors and volunteers. A professional with specialized education and certification in dying, death and bereavement is called a Thanatologist. Their professional responsibilities include working with the dying and/or bereaved. Use their directory to find a Thanatologist by geographic location.
